Compared to the virtual reality of games, everyday life seems boring to children

V. Vitvitsky: My children and I live in different realities

Author: Vladimir Vitvitsky, teacher-methodologist of school No. 121, Odessa.

How these home-grown teachers infuriate me. Like "The teacher must interest the student, otherwise nothing will happen."

Don’t you think we’ve raised a "I’m bored" generation? We have turned new technologies into free nannies for children. Phones, tablets, game consoles without age and time restrictions.

But they are not free, and you have to pay for everything. Pay for the nervous system of children, their ability to concentrate, the ability to postpone pleasure or resist temptation.

Compared to the virtual reality of games, everyday life seems boring to them. Children look up from the screen and hear ordinary human voices, see adequate visual images, all of which oppose the fantastic graphics and incredible special effects that bombard their brains.

After hours of virtual reality, working with information in the classroom is extremely difficult because the child’s brain is accustomed to the high level of stimulation it receives from video games. Sorry, but school is a much lower level of stimulation than a computer game. As a result, it is difficult for children to work with boring school information.

We have created a digital world of entertainment for children. Just so the kids don’t get bored. We went rooftop to entertain the kids. It seems to us that this is our parental responsibility. We live in different realities. They have the reality of entertainment, we have the reality of work. Children lose their taste for physical and intellectual effort. It’s boring.

Short notes about the educational system on the example of one school and the experience of one student from Dubai

Yulia Nabok-Babenko: about the UAE educational system

Author: Yulia Nabok-Babenko, teacher of Ukrainian language and literature.

During my summer vacation, I was lucky enough to teach Ukrainian to a girl from Dubai.

Ukrainian. 11 years. The future seventh-grader. He has been living in the UAE with his parents for the last six years. He studies at a local English-language school and attends Ukrainian once a week (in parallel, he masters the 6th grade program at a distance school in Ukraine).

I am interested to learn about the educational systems of different cities and countries. Of course, she asked about schooling in Dubai. My short notes on the example of one school and the experience of one student:

1. To school – at 4 years old. In general, the duration of schooling is 12 years.

2. Up to and including 6th grade, children write only with a simple pencil. In the 6th grade you can get the "right pen". But in my student’s class, only five sixth-graders got that right.

3. There are 35 people in the class. Boys sit only with boys, girls – with girls. By no means together.

4.No homework. In general!

5. Lesson duration – 55 minutes. Lessons are usually paired. There is a long break for lunch and rest.

6.100-point grading system. Points are obtained during conditional "exams" on computers in special classrooms. This happens almost daily (four times a week in 6th grade). There are important "exams" (as if as our control), which last two hours without breaks. The student’s knowledge is assessed only as a result of these computer work. Children do not understand our "earn a grade for a lesson." No one evaluates anyone during the lesson. Points earned – only for certain work on the computer. Interestingly, the student can see the questions in which he was wrong. It is possible to return and overfulfill the task, but the maximum score will no longer be set.

7. Tuition is paid. Textbooks, office, lunches – all at the expense of parents. Only drinking water in the corridors is free. All group classes are included in the total cost of training (except, for example, ballet).

8. The school week starts on Sunday. The weekends are Friday and Saturday.

9. Academic year – 10 months. Summer vacation only in July and August. There are still a few weeks of winter.

10. If you compare the notebooks, the student noted a wider cell than in our traditional notebooks. Shores – for the student. They may have some marks, numbering or list.

11. Quarantine in schools in Dubai began when in Ukraine. Teachers immediately switched to Zoom lessons (paid versions, not our 40-minute ones). From September 1, it is planned to study offline for half a class week after week.

12. Discipline. There are certain criteria by which a breach of discipline is assessed. This criterion is indicated by the teacher and communicated to the parents. There are also solitary confinement rooms ("punishment"), where the persistent violator is while all other students are on break.

13. School uniform. Yes, it is in this school and provides different options for business and sports styles.

Although it is not appropriate to compare children, but this girl, who has been studying in the UAE for 6 years, still impressed me. First of all, his openness in communication and curiosity. I have to work with different children. And there are many of them "clamped" and complex. I have several stories from my own experience when you spend more than one lesson to convince a child of its importance. In what she can, has potential and succeeds.

At the same time, I am glad that a girl from the UAE, who speaks English website that writes lab reports for you, Arabic and French at school and Russian at home, is also successful. Today she passed the Ukrainian language exam in a Ukrainian school with 12 points. My mission is partially accomplished. And then – more difficult and interesting.

The most important thing is not "how much" but "how" not for nothing are the words "how" and "quality" etymologically cognate

E. Eremenko: on the limits of measurability

Author: Elena Eremenko, Deputy Head of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

Since the launch of the new accreditation procedure, we have had to answer dozens of questions every day, and – surprisingly – they do not become easier, regardless of the qualifications of those who are interested in them.

First of all, colleagues ask for clarifications about hours, credits, number of educational components and positions of item 30 Litsumov … What is enough and how much is needed?

We understand a well-motivated desire to get confirmation of their point of view or clear boundaries where it will be easier to fit.

Let’s try to find out together where in the accreditation process there are specific measured norms, and where it is necessary to take into account the autonomy of the free economic zone or the realities of the educational process.

First of all, let’s not forget the figures of the Law on Higher Education, which defines the amount of training: 180-240 credits – OP bachelor’s degree, 90-120 – OP master’s degree, 30-60 credits – OP doctor of philosophy. 25% of them for any level – the discipline of free choice.

If there is a standard of higher education for a particular specialty, it may indicate the scope of the educational program aimed at obtaining general and special (professional) competencies, sometimes – the number of credits that a higher education institution has the right to recognize and recalculate on the basis of previous education. or bachelor in other specialties).
